Xcaret Park — visit guide

6 min read·June 5, 2026

Xcaret — the family day-trip decoded

Xcaret is the Riviera Maya's flagship eco-park — 200 acres on the Caribbean coast with underground rivers, a sea-turtle conservation center, a butterfly pavilion, a Mexican cemetery installation, and the evening Xcaret México Espectacular show (300+ performers, the canonical Mexico-in-90-minutes performance). Single-day visit, 9 AM–10:30 PM.

Best for

  • ✓Families with kids 6+
  • ✓First-time Mexico visitors wanting culture + nature in one day
  • ✓Couples on a single-park day

Why stay here

  • ●All-in-one eco-park — Mayan culture, sea life, underground rivers in one site.
  • ●Mexico Espectacular evening show — 300+ performers, the canonical Mexico performance.
  • ●Easy from Riviera Maya bases — 30 min from Playa del Carmen.

What's included

Underground river snorkel (3 different routes), sea-turtle nursery, dolphin and stingray enclosures, butterfly pavilion, Mayan village reconstruction, the Hacienda Henequenera (cocoa farm), and the 90-minute Mexico Espectacular show at 7 PM. Full-day visit minimum — most travelers arrive 10 AM, leave 10:30 PM after the show. Lunch and dinner included with Plus pass.

Tickets and add-ons

Basic ($110 USD) covers entry + underground rivers. Plus ($150) adds lunch, dinner buffet, and Mexico Espectacular orchestra seating. Total ($170) adds locker, towel and snorkel gear. Most travelers do Plus — the food makes the 12-hour day work.
“Xcaret is the Mexico-in-one-day experience — equal parts theme park, eco-park and cultural performance.”

Pair with Xel-Há

Xel-Há (sister park, 30 min south near Tulum) is the all-day water park — natural lagoon, snorkel, lazy river, all-inclusive food and drinks. Combine with Xcaret as 2-park combo pass ($210). Or pick one.

What's nearby

  • Playa del Carmen—10 min north
  • Riviera Maya—On site
  • Tulum Ruins—45 min south
  • Xel-Há water park—30 min south
  • Cancún Hotel Zone—60 min north

Getting around

Most resorts run shuttle packages to Xcaret. Independent: ADO bus from Playa del Carmen or rent a car. On-site parking $10 USD.

When to visit

Year-round. Best 10 AM arrival (parks ramp slowly). Mexico Espectacular show every night at 7 PM. Dec–Apr is the dry season; rainy afternoons Jun–Oct don't disrupt the underground rivers but the evening show may move indoors.

Frequently asked questions

How long at Xcaret?

+

Full day minimum — 10 AM to 10:30 PM after the show. The evening show is the highlight.

Is it kid-friendly?

+

Yes for ages 6+. Underground rivers have life jackets included. Dolphin and stingray interactions have age minimums.

Is the food worth the Plus pass?

+

Yes for full-day visits. Without it, you'll eat overpriced à-la-carte. With it, lunch + dinner buffets are quality.

Xcaret vs Xel-Há?

+

Xcaret for culture + nature + evening show. Xel-Há for all-day water park + all-inclusive food. Or do both as 2-park combo ($210).
